Supporting emotionally and behaviourally challenged young people is an incredibly fulfilling career. However, it cannot be undertaken without the correct training, which is why at Oakwood School we are constantly updating our knowledge and skills through our staff regularly attending appropriate courses.
This week we have been undertaking MAPA training. MAPA stands for the Management of Actual or Potential Aggression. Our focus is always on prevention, and the course helped to teach us about management and intervention techniques that help us cope with escalating behaviour in a professional and safe manner.
We want all out staff to be fully equipped to deal with whatever issues arise in the school – that way they will be able to do their jobs to the best of their ability and enjoy the fulfilment that comes from seeing how much they have helped a young person develop.
