At Oakwood School as well as academic tuition we also support and care for our pupils mental wellbeing. Part of that process involves trips outside of the school environment and classroom, so that pupils can learn about their wider environment and discover the benefits of techniques such as mindfulness and meditation. Recently Class 4 went on a trip to Thornton Reservoir.
The reservoir site is a refuge for a diversity of wildlife, including mammals, birds, butterflies and dragonflies. In 2005, it was designated as a Local Wildlife Site due to its importance for wildlife. It is now a peaceful and picturesque location that offers a wide network of trails and footpaths around the reservoir.
Our pupils really enjoyed the sense of peace and calm they got from being in that environment. As you can see from the pictures it is a beautiful place and certainly one we will be revisiting with other classes.
