We are currently working on an exciting partnership project with Bullfrog Arts, who are delivering Taiko drumming sessions and supporting us in creating a Taiko drumming and performance group.
Taiko is an ancient Japanese form of percussion using large drums. Taiko playing is loud, hard, and fast, and involves a lot of choreographed movement which many identify with Japanese martial arts. In Taiko drumming the performers are not merely using the drum as an instrument; they are aiming to form a connection between the drum and themselves. Taiko drumming is a form of ensemble drumming that has strictly choreographed movements, it is crucial that the performers develop an awareness of their body movement and their interaction with other players.
The Taiko project has has led to development in many areas for the young people involved, specifically building self-confidence, managing stress, and modifying behaviour. Watch this space for news of up and coming performances.
